For your information, the 3rd Reich created the
the Siegfried line i.e. Maginot line opposite. In addition, the Belgium
governement at the same time, was building a defensive line but only,
a small section around Liege was completed when the hostility started in May 1940.
As the Maginot line, all the defensive lines mentioned above failed.
»Why is the relationship between France and the USA so problematic?
The answer is very complex. You have to go back to the First World War. The
two armies did not trust each other and their relationship has not improved since.
After the First World War, the society of the Nations fiasco is blamed on each
country by the opposite side. The events increasing the tensions are: the relationship
between Roosevelt and De Gaule (See "The Allies at war" by BBC press), the
Indochine war, the Algerian war, the Vietnam war, etc. The list is almost endless.
